Mike Shaw is a 6’8, 220 pound power forward from De La Salle Institute in Chicago, Illinois. He recently cut his list down to just five schools. The five schools that made the cut are West Virginia, Notre Dame, Illinois, Marquette, and DePaul. Shaw is rated a 4-star and is ranked #58 in the Rivals 150 for 2011.
He is a physical player, but also a very skilled player. He can be a matchup problem on offense with his quick feet and ability to get to the basket. He is very versatile defensively and is able to defend multiple positions. Rebounding is another strong point in Shaw’s game. He uses his quickness and jumping ability to crash the offensive and defensive boards. Shaw also handles the ball well, and is a great passing big man.
Shaw has received some criticism from scouts for drifting away from the basket too much and trying to do too much offensively. He has proven that he can make shots from 20 feet and in, but sometimes he settles for that shot too often. He is given a lot of freedom as a high school player and sometimes it works to his disadvantage in the eyes of college scouts and coaches. That is the only thing holding him back from being a top 10 rated player nationally.
There is no timeline for his decision. He is waiting to see what school fits him the best.
