It appeared that coach Bob Huggins was done with recruiting and had wrapped up his 2010 class. We now know that is not the case as Huggins is in hot pursuit of New Hampton Prep’s Kyle Cain.
Cain is a 6-7 forward who is best known for his ability to run the floor, rebound inside, block shots, and finish strong around the rim. He is big enough and athletic enough to guard multiple positions on the floor.
Cain has become one of the hottest names in recruiting. He was previously committed to Rhode Island before re-opening his recruitment; he his now considering West Virginia, Illinois, Arizona State, and Alabama. Other schools such as Kentucky attempted (unsuccessfully) to get a visit from the multi-faceted Chicago native who spent the last year at a prep school in New Hampshire.
Huggins and West Virginia appear to be in good standing with Cain. He is impressed with Huggins’ history of winning and producing NBA talent.
Cain spoke with Jeff Stockton of eersports; “Bob Huggins is a legendary coach. If you look at how his teams play, he does really well with guys like me, long, athletic kinds of guys. Those are the guys Bob Huggins gets,” he said. “It’s something to look at. They made it to the Final Four. I remember at one time, he had four forwards in the game. On top of that, he’s a legendary coach. And on top of that, it’s a great program.”
He also sees the potential for early playing time with the departure of players like DaSean Butler and Devin Ebanks- if he puts in the work.
“They got some players at my position in Flowers and Jones, but at all major programs you’re going to have to earn your minutes,” Cain said.
Cain was in Morgantown for his visit on Sunday and Monday. He has previously stated that he has no timeline for his decision.
