Gold and Blue Zone and Bleed Gold and Blue teamed up again to get an interview with WVU freshman cornerback Ishmael Banks. Banks is a native of Richmond, VA and is a member of the 2010 recruiting class. He is listed at 6’0 and 185 pounds. He spent last year at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA.

Ishmael was nice enough to answer a few questions for us.

Q: Do you think the year at Hargrave helped you out? If so… how did it help you?

A: Yea it helped a lot; it made me more mature and let me see the speed of the game in college

Q: Did you follow West Virginia football at all before they started recruiting you? Ever watch their games on tv?

A: Yea I used to watch them a lot when they played.

Q: Who was your lead recruiter at WVU?

A: Coach Beatty

Q: What was your final list of schools? Who did you choose between?

A: Maryland, Western Kentucky, Marshall, Kent state, Penn state started showing interest after I committed.

Q: What was the deciding factor for you in choosing WVU?

A: It wasn’t too far and I could see myself here for the next 4 years.

Q: What were your thoughts of Morgantown after you made your visits?

A: I liked it a lot, and the fans.

Q: You’re originally from Richmond, VA. Did you know any of the other WVU players or recruits that come from that area?

A: I went high school with Trey Johnson and Marquise Wallace

Q: What do you think your strengths are as a corner?

A: I feel I’m an all round corner.

Q: Are there any players at your position that you look up to in the NFL? Is there anybody that you try to pattern your style after?

A: Darrelle Revis

Q: You, Barry Brunetti, and Travis Bell all joined the team earlier than the rest of this years recruiting class. Have you noticed a big difference in the way you practice and prepare at this level?

A: Yeah, in college it’s way more intense
