PA Safety Commits to West Virginia

West Virginia’s coaching staff  picked up the 19th member of their 2012 recruiting class today when Nate Smith announced his decision to play football at WVU during a press conference at his high school. Smith (5’11, 185) is a 3-star defensive back from Archbishop Wood Catholic High School in Warminster, PA. Smith chose West Virginia over offers from South Carolina, Michigan State, Temple, and Toledo. He also received heavy interest from Georgia, Pitt, Rutgers, and Cincinnati. According to Rivals.com, Nate is the #21 ranked safety in the country and the...

Mountaineers Continue to Move Up

Despite having an off-week, West Virginia continues to climb the rankings. In the AP Poll, the Mountaineers moved up two spots to #11 after Michigan and Georgia Tech both suffered their first losses of the season. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, WVU moved up from #16 to a tie with Virginia Tech for #14. Both WVU and VT were passed up by Michigan State who beat 11th ranked Michigan. This week was also the first unveiling of the BCS standings. West Virginia  debuted...

WVU Looks to Build on Miramar Pipeline

No high school has been a better source of talent for the WVU football program than Miramar High School over the last few years. Former Patriots like Geno Smith, Stedman Bailey, and Ivan McCartney are all huge contributors to an explosive Mountaineer offensive attack. West Virginia will look to build on that Miramar connection with the 2012 recruiting class. WVU’s matchup with Connecticut was more than just the opening game of conference play, it was a huge recruiting weekend for Dana Holgorsen and the rest...

WVU #13 in AP Poll, #16 in Coaches

West Virginia got off to a slow start against UConn, but was able to pull away in the second half for a comfortable 43-16 win. With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 5-1 overall and moved to 1-0 in Big East play. WVU continues to slowly climb up in the rankings. They moved up three spots in both the AP (#13) and Coaches (#16) Polls. I don’t want to look too far ahead, but the Mountaineers should be favored in all of their remaining games this season, and are...

Attendance Argument Goes Round and Round

Circular logic seems to have captured the Mountaineer fan base in a whirlpool of longing and ineptitude. Fan attendance is low because the competition (and weather) leaves something to be desired. Conversely, West Virginia needs phenomenal fan support to be attractive to the big play conferences looking to expand, a move destined to produce an upgrade in you know what: competition. The conundrum was boldly highlighted by the weak turnout in attendance for the Mountaineers’ romp over Bowling Green this past Saturday. The...

Bowling Green Review

Flashing lights, microphones and cameras all around me. I think I just felt my smile touch my ears. Did I really just do that? You sure did, kid. Welcome to the world of earning. You, son, just passed your first test. After laying down some solid rushing efforts against LSU and Maryland, Coach Holgorsen called Dustin Garrison’s number to start against Bowling Green and he rabidly took advantage. 291 yards and two TDs rushing the football while maintaining nearly a first down length per...

Holgorsen Rips WVU Fans (Video)

Earlier today, West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen stood in front of the media for another press conference. He spoke about the Bowling Green game, and the upcoming game with Connecticut this week. Another topic that he had plenty to say about was the poor attendance at the Bowling Green game last week. “The funny part about it is we were all talking two weeks ago about how much of a difference the fans and the crowd make to the LSU people,” said Holgorsen....
