Holgorsen Adds to Defensive Staff

West Virginia University and head football coach Dana Holgorsen have announced the addition of Mike Smith to the Mountaineer coaching staff. Holgorsen will not announce coaching positions until all hires have been completed, however Smith comes to West Virginia after being the outside linebackers coach with the NFL’s New York Jets. It is believed that he will coach the linebackers and be a co-defensive coordinator at WVU. Smith was promoted to full-time outside linebackers coach with the Jets this past season after serving the...

West Virginia (14-5, 4-2 Big East) will host the Cincinnati Bearcats (15-4, 5-1 Big East) on Saturday at the WVU Coliseum in what will arguably be the biggest conference game to date for both teams. The winner of this game will more than likely earn themselves a spot in next week’s Top-25 rankings. Cincinnati enters this game coming off of a huge 70-67 victory at No. 11 UConn on Wednesday night. The Bearcats also have wins at then-No. 11 Georgetown and at then-No. 22...

WVU Picks Up Pair of Commitments

West Virginia picked up two more verbal commitments on back-to-back days when cornerback Nana Kveremeh and running back Torry Clayton decided to become Mountaineers. Kveremeh is a 5’11″, 175 pound corner from South Worthington HS in Worthington, Ohio. The 3-star prospect chose the Mountaineers over offers from Boston College, Northwestern, Akron, Toldeo, and others. He was also receiving interest from Cincinnati, Michigan, Wake Forest, and Notre Dame. In the end it came down to WVU and Boston College, but eventually he decided Morgantown was the place for him....

Holgorsen Putting Together Defensive Staff

West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen is looking to put together a defensive staff to fill the vacant spots left by Jeff Casteel, David Lockwood, and Bill Kirelawich. Several names have been thrown around over the last couple of weeks, but it’s becoming clear who his real targets are. According to reports, it’s basically a done deal that Joe DeForest (former associate head coach/special teams coach/safeties coach for Oklahoma State) will be joining the WVU staff. An official announcement has not been made, but he has resigned from...

A Little Extra Motivation!

If this West Virginia football program needs a little extra motivation heading into next season, they need to look no further than the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. When the polls were released late last night, one of the first things that Mountaineer fans immediately realized was that somehow, someway WVU is still ranked behind ACC bridesmaid Virginia Tech. West Virginia finished at #18 while VT finished one spot ahead at #17. Let me get this straight, we finish 10-3 and VT finishes 11-3,...
