UNLV Preview: Rebels make the trip from Sin City

My, how sweet a home and home with UNLV could be? I can see the headlines now: “Mountaineer Fans Ravage Las Vegas – Casinos Bankrupt from Money Drain in Complimentary Alcohol Beverages”. Sadly, these headlines will never come to fruition. UNLV will be taking a beating, taking three quarters of a million dollars, and going home never to be thumped by the Old Gold and Blue again. There is still plenty of intrigue involved with playing an MWC team. First off, that conference wants...

Sleeping Giants?

Sleeping Giants?

It seems as clear as Pacific Ocean water where the issues lie in the offensive deficiencies. The offensive line is struggling like a chained and locked up Chris Angel dropped in a water tank. Like Chris Angel, this crew will come out alive and well, perhaps even with BCS trophy to showcase in the Mountaineer Athletic Center. The offensive line returned four starters from last season. They were able to instill depth in the roster and even add some solid talent. They are not...

Know the Opponent: UNLV Rebels

UNLV played on the road in Reno against their in-state rival. The Battle for the Fremont Cannon, the trophy going to the winner, was taken home again by the #25 Nevada Wolfpack after a 44-26 victory. The Rebel’s offense continued to struggle, even when opportunities arrived on a silver platter in the form of turnovers. Nevada dished out two fumbles and an interception to the welcoming Reb hands. The Rebs held tight and forced a turnover on downs. In the end Nevada was able...

Evaluating LSU Performances

September 29, 2010

Still confused about how to feel about the LSU loss? Yep, me too.  I wanted that win so bad I could taste victory in the spicy Jambalaya and ice cold Abita Jocomo. Adding to the confusion is the fact that the AP and Coaches moved Nevada into the Top 25 while West Virginia was escorted out of the rankings. That’s just a textbook case of throwing salt on the wound. Since I was entertaining more confusion than a teenage hemp head at The Rocky...

LSU from the Rear View Mirror

LSU from the Rear View Mirror

The bad spirits are swirling like dead, fall leaves in a brisk, autumn wind. Not because West Virginia lost on the road to a formidable SEC opponent who, oh by the way, is ranked #10 in the nation, not because West Virginia was so close and would have won the game if not for a few breakdowns, not because West Virginia’s offense couldn’t move the football, and, certainly not because Mountaineer fans were treated poorly in Louisiana (quite the contrary). The bad spirits exist...

WVU makes cut for Tampa 4-star WR

Andre Davis has cut his list to seven schools and West Virginia is one of his choices. The other six teams on his list are Miami, Florida State, South Florida, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Rutgers. Davis is a 6’1, 180 pound WR from Jefferson High School in Tampa, Florida. Scout.com has Davis rated as a 4-star and the #40 overall WR in the country. According to scouts, his strengths as a wideout are his ability to run great routes, his hands, and his...

Comeback falls short against LSU

West Virginia was its own worst enemy Saturday night in Baton Rouge, not the LSU roster full of 5-star talent or the 92,000+ screaming fans wearing purple and gold. Despite a gritty comeback attempt, the Mountaineers could not overcome their mishaps from early in the first half. Missed field goals, poor offensive line play, lack of ball security, and breakdowns on special teams proved to be the difference. LSU took a 17-0 lead with just under 10 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter...
