WVU to Orange Bowl

It’s official, West Virginia (9-3) will play the ACC champion Clemson Tigers (10-3) in the Discover Orange Bowl on January 4th in Miami, FL. It will be WVU’s first appearance in the Orange Bowl. It will be the second time West Virginia has faced off with Clemson. The only previous meeting was in the 1989 Gator Bowl. Clemson came away with a 27-7 win that day. Clemson brings a high scoring offense that is led by quarterback, and former West Virginia verbal commit, Tajh...

South Florida Preview

And then there was one. Another Mountaineer season flew by like the geese heading south for the winter. West Virginia manufactured their 10th winning season in a row, and once again they find themselves in a precarious position when it comes to winning the Big East title. The situation West Virginia has no control over is the season finally featuring another Big East title contender, Cincinnati. The Bearcats get Uconn at home Saturday in a must win match-up if they are to carve off...

BCS = The Blunder of College Sports

The absurdity of College Football’s BCS system is on the verge of being crapped on by a crimson Chianina and therefore piling the BS as high as ever. At the beginning of the season, 120 FBS teams do battle for the ultimate goal of playing for the National Championship Trophy. At the end of the season a half dozen qualifiers are told to go eat dirt while the two most popular or glamorous teams are subjectively polled by people and computers and given the...

Backyard Brawl Review – Under the Arm – Pitt

It seemed like it took an eternity for Bruce Irvin to route around Pitt’s defensive tackle and knock the ball out of Tino Sunseri’s throwing hand. In reality Irvin blew by his blocker and forced Sunseri to slide up in the pocket in less than three seconds, in less than four seconds Pitt’s chances of winning the Backyard Brawl bounced off the turf. That play capped the 104th, possibly last, Backyard Brawl with another feather in West Virginia’s rivalry cap. It also earmarked the...

Roshard Burney Commits to West Virginia

WVU picked up its 21st commitment of the 2012 class when a talented running back from the Sunshine State decided to end his recruitment and verbally commit. Roshard Burney is a 5’11, 205 pound running back from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The 3-star prospect chose the Mountaineers over offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Purdue, Rutgers, and several others. He also received heavy interest from Miami. Burney is a balanced runner. He’s a power back that can pound it between the tackles, but he also has...

WVU vs Akron Preview

The West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball team will host the Akron Zips tonight in the WVU Coliseum. This is just the beginning of a tough stretch of games for West Virginia. Akron comes into the game at 3-2. The Zips got off to a great start this season, opening up with a 68-58 win over 24th ranked Mississippi State. They went on to lose back-to-back games with Valparaiso and Duquesnse, but don’t be fooled, this is a good team. Akron is coming off a...

WVU Continues Dominance Over Pitt

There has been a lot of talk that the 104th edition of the Backyard Brawl might have been the last, at least for a while. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but if it was, at least it ended the right way… with a WVU win and Pitt fans being sent home with their tails between their legs. West Virginia’s win Friday night was their 3rd straight over rival Pitt. In fact, WVU has won 5 out of the last 7  and 14...

WVU #23 in BCS Poll

West Virginia jumped back into the BCS Standings following their 21-20 win over long-time rival Pitt. The Mountaineers come in at #23, and are the only Big East team in the Top 25 of the BCS Standings. WVU is also ranked in both the AP and USA Today Coaches Polls. They are #20 in the Coaches Poll and #22 in the AP Poll. Cincinnati is the only other Big East team to be ranked in the Top 25 in any of the major Polls....

West Virginia -7 Has Got Me Cranked

West Virginia -7 Has Got Me Cranked

I can understand the skepticism and trepidation clutching Mountaineer fans as they cautiously approach the 104th Backyard Brawl with West Virginia a clean favorite to win. The Mountaineers have been burned badly, third degree, in this situation before. None sticks out worse than the 2007 debacle, and for good reason. The loss to Pitt kept our glorious program from achieving the coveted prize of Mountaineer fantasies: entrance to the title game. Sure, there have been some instances where West Virginia fell at the wrong...
