ESPN Exercises 6-Day Window for WVU-Cincy Game

The Big East released a statement today saying that it would be another week before the game time is announced for the WVU-Cincinnati game. ESPN will exercise the six-day window option before announcing the time for a matchup that could end up being for the Big East Championship. The game will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2, or ABC. The meeting with Cincinnati is shaping up to be a huge game IF the Mountaineers can come away with a win against Louisville at home this weekend, and Cincinnati can get by Pittsburgh. That would...

Mountaineers Rally in the Snow

I think its pretty clear that Mother Nature enjoys challenging the Mountaineers. For the third time this season, the weather has played a significant role in the outcome of the football game. West Virginia, however, was able to overcome the adversity and achieve victories in all three games. Coach Holgorsen had no choice but to go heavy on offense and pound the stout Rutgers defense with big 220 pound Shawne Alston, and it paid off. Alston punished the Scarlet Knights with 14 carries for...

Rutgers Preview

With all the hustle and bustle of the recent conference realignment amusement, its nice to have a story that tugs at the heartstrings and makes us remember what’s really important. Eric Legrand will lead Rutgers on the field Saturday versus the Mountaineers after battling a potential life threatening injury from last season. Doctors said he would never breathe on his own again, but through his own perseverance he is alive and well and ready for the 39th meeting between the Mountaineers and Scarlett Knights...

West Virginia University To Join Big 12 Conference

Mountaineer Nation can finally breathe a sigh of relief… it’s over. The Big 12 Board of Directors voted unanimously to add West Virginia as a full conference member effective July 1, 2012.  West Virginia will compete in the Big 12 conference starting with the 2012-2013 season. “The Big 12 Presidents and Chancellors are excited to welcome another outstanding institution to the Conference,” said Burns Hargis, Chairman of the Big 12 Board of Directors and President of Oklahoma State University. “The addition of West Virginia,...

Back On the Football Track

Anybody else itchin’ to watch a West Virginia football game right now? Between the whole conference realignment debacle and issues with the kick-off team, I’m stressed to the last remaining lunatic threads in my troubled mind. Last night, as I forged my path back to the home base, I wanted to put my mind on a topic that would help relieve the tension. I began to ponder which cold beverage I might enjoy while watching the 3:30 p.m. match-up with Rutgers. Then it struck me....

It’s the Nation’s Perspective that Needs a Mountaineer Re-alignment

It’s the Nation’s Perspective that Needs a Mountaineer Re-alignment

This realignment business is absurd. It’s literally like herding squirrels and yet, I continue to saddle-up and let my lasso fly. The most disappointing aspect, as written by Geoff Coyle in his WVIllustrated article, is that West Virginia is way too good of a program with way too much tradition to be peddled like a circus freak on a pedestal. Of all the schools involved in the conference realignment in the past decade, none are on the same level of competition from a football...

Henderson Commits to WVU

Bob Huggins added the third member of his 2012 recruiting class when 3-star shooting guard Terry Henderson announced his decision to play basketball at WVU. Henderson is a 6′,5, 180 pound 2-guard from Neuse Baptist Christian School in Raleigh, NC. He chose West Virginia over offers from Maryland, Boston College, Miami, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Richmond, George Mason, and several others. Henderson is considered one of the best pure scorers in the 2012 class. He has a sweet stroke and seemingly unlimited range on his jumper. He’s more...

WVU Falls In the Polls After Disappointing Loss

West Virginia fell hard in the rankings following the embarrassing 49-23 loss to Syracuse on Friday night. After inching their way near the Top 10, they now find themselves at the bottom of the Top 25. The Mountaineers are ranked #25 in the latest BCS standings, #25 in the AP Poll, and #24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. WVU is joined by fellow Big East member Cincinnati in the rankings. The Bearcats are now #24 in the AP Poll, and #23 in the...
