Backyard Brawl Preview

In what could potentially be the final Backyard Brawl in either men’s basketball or football to be hosted in Morgantown for quite some time, West Virginia (15-7, 5-4 Big East) will host the Pitt Panthers (13-9, 2-7) on Big Monday. The Mountaineers and Panthers have played at least once (and most of the time, twice) in every season since 1918. At that time, WVU had only ever beaten Pitt once in basketball. Now, they have done it 95 times, and they hold a 95-87...

WVU Falls Victim to Refs for Third Time; Time for Replay?

Saturday was a tough day for Bob Huggins and his young team. For the third time this season, the officials took the game out of the hands of the players and decided they wanted to have the final input on the winner of a hard-fought game. Before I go any further, I want to make it clear that I know that generally speaking, one bad call or play does not decide the winner or loser of a game. However, in the three games that I am...

Mountaineers try to Squeeze the Orange

West Virginia (15-6, 5-3 Big East) will head on the road to take on No. 4 Syracuse (21-1, 8-1) in what will be the Mountaineers’ toughest test to-date. WVU will need all the help in can get in order to take down the Orange on their home court, but some of that help has already been provided, as Syracuse forward Fab Melo is not expected to play in this game. Syracuse (RPI No. 1, Strength of Schedule 4) enters this game coming off of...

#1 Center in Class of 2013 Interested in West Virginia

Nerlens Noel (6’10″, 210) is the top rated center in the class of 2013. Both Rivals.com and Scout.com rate him as a 5-star and one of the top five overall players in the country. In a recent interview with wvillustrated.com, Noel made it clear that he was definitely interested in West Virginia. The Massachusetts native was in Morgantown last weekend for the Prime Time Shootout at University High School. While in town, he was able to meet with the coaches, watch a practice, and take a tour of the...

WVU at St. John’s Preview

West Virginia (15-5, 5-2 Big East) will head on the road to take on the St. John’s Red Storm (8-11, 2-6) at the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, on Wednesday night. St. John’s enters this game on a big slide, having lost 6 of their last 7 games, with all of those games coming in conference. Their only win during that stretch came in a 57-55 victory at Cincinnati on January 7. Their only other conference win came against Providence by a...

WVU Disrespected in Polls… Again!

The latest college basketball rankings came out Monday morning, and once again WVU was disrespected and left out of both Top 25 polls. It’s becoming more and more obvious that the Top 25 is nothing more than a popularity contest that is run by voters who either don’t know anything about basketball, or just don’t care enough to get it right. West Virginia (15-5, 5-2 Big East) has an RPI in the top 15 and currently has the second toughest strength of schedule according to realtimerpi.com....
